Duranium - the Element We Created

As some of you know, Duran Duran Worldwide created a new element called Duranium.  We even had a contest and invited some of you to write about where Duranium can be found in high concentrations.  Here's a lookback on some of that...

The number 12,500, if you recall, is the amount of signatures we were hoping to get on our petition.  We never made it to that, but we did get the attention of over 12,500 with our blog and effort.

This was an alternate logo we released.  It is 'radioactive', so makes one think of the song Playing with Uranium.  I am also a Fallout fan and was likely thinking about that when I created it.

The Duranium levels of Exposure...to measure how much Duranium you are feeling for something Duran related.  Interesting that Robert Downey Jr is featured in one of the stories and he was the one that inducted them into the Rock Hall...

Duranium, the newest element on the periRADic table, is found everywhere on Planet Earth but is especially abundant in the following places and materials: 1. The mirror-tiled walls of the Rum Runner in Birmingham, the discovery site of unique, new (wave) sounds. 2. Composite of 13 (soon to be 14) alluring album discs: vinyl for LPs, plastic for CDs, and ceramic substrate for disk drives. 3. Seepage from poster-covered bedroom walls in 1983 and beyond. 4. The stage of the Polytechnic Lecture Theatre in Birmingham, the event horizon of superstardom. 5. An ingredient in Yves Saint Laurent lipstick #32, which gives Nick his perfect pout. 6. The desert sands of Coachella, a most magical venue for the band. 7. The exposed balcony of Roger's hotel room. 8. Jo Hall in Osaka, because finally reuniting feels so good. 9. Between the teak planks of the yacht Eilean. 10. In the taps of our toes and the beats of our hearts…forever Duranies!

Won Julian Marinelli

Hi Duran Duran Worldwide,

My name is Won, a 25 y.o. guy with Duranie passion in him (and high levels of Duranium).

Here is my entry for Duranium contest, hope to win so I can give this gift to my girlfriend (also Duranie). Enjoy and thanks for this chance :)

Duranium is a bizzarre element not yet examined by scientists. It consists of high levels of awesomeness. It is very hard to pinpoint an exact source of where it could be found since it spreads very quick but some locations of high concentration can be easily found.

Duranium is one of the most resistent elements out in the universe, do we have any proof? Yes sure we do, we know that it has become a strong metallic substance (which tells us how Duranium is very shifatble state that can go to sound wave to solid and even to video) and can be found all the way on the crust of Bajor [1]. It has been used to build the hull of starships of various alien races and peace navigates throughout space.

Duranium also is known in space and time and who others than The Doctor can know this? Duranium, through it most simple form, (sound waves) showed itself in a russian submarine [2] to stop a nuclear warhead that could have destroyed the whole world!(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4LNg3o06G8).

Also famous Tony Stark, billionaire industrialist and inventor, in his mansion in Los Angeles (California), [3] has built the highest concentration of armors using Duranium alloy (see picture).

The major levels of Duranium can be obviously found in Birmingham [4] precisely in 1978, it's where it all started, since then we've been seeing this element climb up Musical charts adn reaching into television (specifically MTV) [5] through its simplest form (video waves), grow in rooms [6] of human female species through papery and vinyl memorabilia and eventually take over in stadiums/theatres [7] for usually one day.

We also can find several other areas very influent: Pelham Manor (New York) [8] where we can find AskKaty, the database girl, the brains that probably can solve the important question 'what is Duranium?' she has all the answers you can imagine and last but not least Seattle [9], where we can find the sciartist (mixture between scientist and artist) that discovered Duranium and tried giving a form through his masterpiece 'Beautiful Colors', mister Andrew (Durandy) Golub and Duran Duran worldwide's Kirk Harrington.

In the end we can say that the Music is between us and Duranium can be found where 'the Music's between us' yes, between Duranies of all over Planet Earth [10]

Is this element invasive or dangerous? No, certainly not. It spreads peace and joy, happiness and a common bond between all the people who get in contact with this element, so radioactive yes but come on, it's worth getting contaminated and loving each moment of it!

Duranium "is only found where high concentrations of Duran Duran awesomeness are present."

Here is my list of the 10 places where high concentrations of Duranium are likely to exist:

1. Inside SLB's beret worn atop the Eiffel Tower (AVTAK video). God know he was so sexy up there donning the horizontal striped shirt to match, in classic stereotypical style with the Walkman (I believe) in his hand that transforms into a detonator.but damn that beret look had very high concentrations of Duranium I am sure of it.

2. Definitely in Roger Taylor's biceps, especially when he's playing his instrument which requires two hands it's so large. There has to be high concentrations of Duranium stored in his biceps as they are responsible for greatness heard in every DD song and on display for his comfort and ours.

3. Simon's notebook. Legend has it that this was the missing link in the great discovery known to be "Duranium." Yes, strong forces were incubating in the lab, however the notebook contained the final ingredients that created this phenomenal element that came to be known as Duranium. There is some mystery about this notebook tied to the origins of Duranium, however when asked, SLB responded that it contained "too much information" for the layperson to fathom. So bugger off."

4. Definitely Duranium exists in Nick's choice of hair color through the years as he's been the one member to change hair colors most frequently in the early years, including the style and look of it. Actually, his entire presentation, being the one to watch as to what he might be wearing. A fashionista? never. trend setter? hell  no. Purely Art. Nick is a canvas. And Duranium is found in large amounts. Some say his blood type is "D" (Duranium).

5. In regards to Andy Taylor, Duranium  increases exponentially in the height of the leap he takes off amps, on stage, etc. while playing guitar. It is present in that space between his feet and the ground. And a little known fact here is that researchers were able to extract quite possibly the largest sample of Duranium in one segment of time (known to man) during the "Live From London" concert, because of the number of jumps he made.

6. John Taylor attributes the origins of Duranium, perhaps alluding to the description of what best describes the sound waves when this element was first combined, is somewhere between "Chic" and "The Sex Pistols."

7. No one would deny that Roger's Adam's apple displayed prominently in the "Planet Earth" video has very, very high concentrations of Duranium.  Research on Duranium continues to confirm this finding through sampling over the course of nearly 30 years. Some newer theories have emerged since 2010 that Duranium levels are surging due to what has been identified as a 2nd generation influx effect.

8. High concentrations and spikes in levels of Duranium are ubiquitous and omnipresent, which is rare in and of itself, anytime "Jo-Si" (John and Simon) get very close on stage, singing into the microphone as if their lips were touching it and each other's.  Denied as homoerotica, but rather the close and comfortable nature of their relationship over 30 years, the forces that draw John and Simon so close together to merge into "Jo-Si" generates a phenomenon that perplexes even the most skilled Duranium researchers; that is (1) Duranium increases exponentially when the combination is observed, AND, unlike any other element, (2) when conjured in the mind either individually or in a collective group with no visual stimuli. Certainly a direction of future research for those who only dare to venture.

9. A hidden source of Duranium has recently been discovered in The smile of Nick Rhodes. Scientists have combined both an exhaustive examination of archival/historical data and have utilized participant/observer methods of data gathering to prove this theory. Once dismissed as a "dead end road" as far as it being a source of Duranium (as few remembered Nick smiling except on the elephant in the SAP video and in the video documentary "Sing Blue Silver" whilst playing video games before a performance), the persistence and dedication of the researchers paid off. what must have seemed to have been an arduous task by naysayers, the team stated, "most people don't realize how often he does smile. You just need to look for it once you know what you're looking for, once you've seen the range of smiles Mr. Rhodes exhibits under different conditions. From there on, the measurement of Duranium was quite simple and it was there in abundance."

10. While there are traces of Duranium found in many other places, the final source I'll point out is lyrical: it is exhibited in "NO-NO NOTORIOUS NOTORIOUS," and "THE RE- FLEX FLE FLE FLE FLE FLEX." Scientists have consistently recorded the highest levels of Duranium during these two patterns of lyrics, and in some instances, measurements could not be taken as they were beyond the capacity of the equipment used by the researchers. "It broke our devices, our tools. We couldn't believe it," remarked one graduate research assistant, while another was so "overwhelmed" by the presence of Duranium, that it is more likely than not that he dropped the measurement device.
