A Music Journey of Duran Duran’s Music
If I were to take someone on a journey of Duran Duran’s music over the span of their career, this is what I’d enjoy introducing them to.
The Reflex…1984…the song that hooked me on @duranduran for life. It was clear by this song that Duran Duran had invaded…hailed as part of the second Beatles invasion…
1985: Special mention… View to a Kill. Still to date the only #1 James Bond song to hit number one in the US.
Notorious…1986…a very different sound from earlier albums, with more funk and a successful collaboration with Chic legend Nile Rodgers
Special mention song, The Chauffeur, from the album Rio, 1987
I Don’t Want Your Love, from their album Big Thing 1988. Also a very distinct sound with a strong, commanding, pop beat.
The Wedding album was released in 1993 and was a huge success. The song Ordinary World won an Igor Novello award and the addition of Warren Cucurrullo’s guitar really added something special to this album…
For me, the Astronaut album (2004) is one of @duranduran more lively and upbeat albums. It makes you want to Reach for the Sunrise and want to know What Happens Tomorrow…
Red Carpet Massacre (2007) introduced a collaboration with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. A collaboration that Madonna would later copy. My favorite song on this album is Falling Down.
All You Need is Now, produced by Mark Ronson in 2011, saw some of the sounds unique to Duran from their early days come back…but to a fresh updated beat. Girl Panic is my favorite song on this album…
Paper Gods, 2015. This album brought back @nilerodgers to collaborate on Pressure Off as well as bring in the talent of Janelle Monae. John Frusciante and Steve Jones also contributed. My favorite song on this album is Sunset Garage
The Future Past album (2021) is full of amazing songs with collaborations and contributions of Tove Lo, Chai, Giorgio Moroder, Graham Coxon (Blur), and Ivorian Doll.
If I were to pick my favorite songs on this album, I would choose Hammerhead and More Joy…
